Sound Performance/Closing: Friday Jan 24, 7pm -9pm at Fourteenfifteen No Paths Back is a show of photographs taken during Mary Tsiongas and Jim Roeber's recent trips to Mary’s birthplace in Northern Greece. Mary’s photos were taken during her last trip to Greece with her parents, in 2023; and explore themes of aging, grief, homecoming, and loss. Jim’s photos were taken during his two most recent trips to Greece, in 2016 and 2019; and reflect his love and appreciation for his extended in-law family; and his ongoing fascination with the mysteries of post-war Greece.

Mary Tsiongas is a cross-disciplinary artist whose work addresses human relationships to technology, time and the natural environment. Born in Greece and now based in New Mexico, Tsiongas has exhibited and lectured extensively for the past twenty-five years, nationally and internationally. Venues include CURRENTS New Media Festival in Santa Fe, NM, ISEA 2014 in Dubai, the Lincoln Center in New York City, the Nevada Museum of Art, Southern Exposure in San Francisco and the McColl Center in North Carolina. She was awarded Women to Watch 2015 by the National Museum of Women in the Arts, where her work entitled Likenesses of Light was featured in the exhibition Organic Matters. She has held residencies at the Headlands Center for the Arts, the UCROSS Foundation, and the State Silk Museum in Tbilisi, Georgia. Tsiongas received her MFA from California College of the Arts and her BFA from the Massachusetts College of Art & Design. She is a Professor in Electronic Media in the Department of Art at the University of New Mexico, where she founded the Experimental Art & Technology area.
Jim Roeber is a poet, photographer, and sound artist based in Albuquerque, New Mexico. His photos have been included in group shows at the Sanitary Tortilla Factory and the UNM CFA Downtown Gallery in Albuquerque. His sound practice includes composition, live improv performance, and sound installation, using electronics, woodwinds, and computer-based tools. He has collaborated on sound installations at Gallery One in Albuquerque, NM; the CURRENTS New Media Festival in Santa Fe, NM; the National Silk Museum in Tbilisi, Georgia; and the UNM ARTSLab. He has performed in the Nameless Sound series They, Who Sound in Houston, TX; and has performed solo and in ensembles in numerous venues in Houston and Albuquerque. |
