Simulation/Reality
group art show
Opening Reception: June 9, 6pm-9pm
Closing Reception: July 7, 6pm-9pm
Reality is a slippery fish right now, isn’t it? All things are simulatable: photos, conversations, videos, voices, news clips, illustration, writing styles. Hours of our waking life are spent in virtual spaces, projecting ourselves into disembodied environments and shared dreams. The vastness of the world can be experienced as reflections in a mirror in the palm of one’s hand. It’s incredible to behold. But what exactly are we witnessing? The cutting edge of technology pressing against reality’s softening membrane. Advancements in technology are outpacing our ability to decipher what is real and what is conjured. As all things become possible, everything begins to feel suspicious. And back on earth, reality is as non-negotiable as ever, and we are not as far from its ravenous interests as these clever pastimes would lead us to believe.
In this exhibition, we ask you to step into the demilitarized zone between irresistible simulation and immovable reality, to forage in the fog of the illusory, and bring us back what artifacts you can find.
Featuring work by:
Zac Travis, Talis Frouge, Stephanie Galloway, Nat Davis, Karl Orozco, Jessie Dean, Harley Kirschner, Grace Marshian, Diego Garcia, Cecilia McKinnon, Beth Lou Hansen, and Adrian Pijoan
