Soft Energy Paths
Solo exhibition by Kerry Cottle
April 2022
My creative practice is guided by intuitive and systematic hand-based labor, and I am compelled to make slow, energetic work that speaks to histories of abstraction and color theory. I am currently interested in exploring the connotations of the modernist square, the grid, and industrial color within and outside of the field of art and how they have woven themselves into our built environments and social systems. This series of paintings utilizes the grid as a tool to designate space for the spanning of value scales and polarities with the intention of illuminating what is in-between.
Kerry Cottle is a visual artist and MFA candidate in Painting and Drawing at the University of New Mexico. Her work is an ongoing meditation on abstraction and color theory as a method to symbolically consider, restore, and gently subvert flawed value systems.
